Home heating systems

The week since Christmas has been relatively quiet here. It's nice to sleep late and have a leisurely breakfast.

Today we made big strides on a couple of ongoing projects. First of all, we had ordered a custom-built fireplace screen for the living room. We wanted something that was large enough, and also that would not have to be moved in order to add logs or build the fire. We have been working with Bethel's Welding and they built a screen 60" wide and 48" tall. Today it was installed.

Here's the guy who did all the work attaching the frame for the screen. He had a very difficult time trying to drill bolts into the stone, actually working up a sweat trying to get the job done. He went through both drills he had brought, plus ran down the battery on Brad's as well.

Meanwhile, Brad and the boss from Bethel Welding stood around watching and chatting. The two guys had to leave, go back and get a drill powered by electricity, and also a clip they decided to put on the doors of the screen.
Here the boss is holding the screen in place while the worker does some drilling.
Finally, the screen is in place. We may have a fire tonight!
Another on-going project has been the acquisition of a wood-burning stove for the kitchen. That finally came today, after some transport issues. A lacrosse player from E. C. Glass drove out and helped Brad move the stove into place. Next we're having a chimney expert come out to install the pipe and check out our chimney flues and make sure all is well. (The top is not on the stove)
Also today a guy came to give us an estimate on cutting down a few trees. That will be done in the next month or so.
And in a little while Brad and I are going to meet with the caterers for Eddie and Kelly's rehearsal dinner --- the folks at Main Street Eatery. The wedding is exactly two months away! and I know that time will fly by. In the "small world" department, the guy who was the boss from Bethel's Welding looked familiar to me, and I asked him where our paths might have crossed. None of the places he mentioned rang a bell. But when they came back a second time, he told me he used to work at Main Street, and that is where I had seen him before!

So today was a busy day. Brad has one more vacation day tomorrow before he goes back to work on Thursday. At least it will be a short work week!
